Glasgow hotel plan dropped in favor of student accommodation
A developer has progressed proposals for purpose built student accommodation in Glasgow city center after previously gaining consent for a hotel at the site.
Caledon Property Group hopes to knock down the disused commercial buildings on the corner of Hutcheson Street and Trongate, and replace them with a 173-bed study housing facility.
In February 2020, permission was granted by Glasgow City Council for a 157-bedroom aparthotel at the site.
Revised plans by Mosaic Architecture + Design, based on the original submission, show a new internal layout to accommodate the change in use with the outward mass remaining as before.
A statement given as part of pre-application consultation read: “The previously approved scheme has been amended to reflect PBSA [purpose-built student accommodation] floor plans which now accommodate different size apartments and private amenity spaces at ground floor level, basement levels and upper floors.
“The new proposal will retain the same mass of the previously approved building envelope. We are currently working to finalize exterior materiality and details.”
