SENS Dining has been a go-to for those staying near Holland Village / Buona Vista for Japanese food as it serves a wide array of dishes from premium sashimi to maki rolls and sukiyaki sets and a variety of hot food. They have recently launched a new menu with specialty items and sets made for sharing.
Their mainstay is the Hokkaido Treasure Don – the house signature premium sashimi don with uni on sushi rice. It comes with generous assorted seafood including Iwagaki oysters (very plump and fresh) and a rack of uni to go with fresh ebi, salmon belly, white kingfish, tuna, amberjack and tamago.These sushi tacos are available in five flavours, each consisting of ebi senbei prawn crackers for taco shells then topped with various toppings. My favorite is this Hotate Uni which features sweet scallops, uni, avocado, cherry tomatoes and topped with ikura. Another unique flavor is the Tsubugai shellfish taco, which holds juicy pillows of raw whelk marinated in a house-made sauce and mixed with avocado and cherry tomatoes. The star of the meal and a must-order when you visit SENS Dining is the Yagura Ketsuga Sushi Box (available in limited sets daily). It is served in a tower modeled after an ancient Japanese fortress and has three tiers. The first tier (roof) holds crispy seaweed for you to make your own hand roll creations. The second tier (my favorite tier!) holds uni, negitoro, ikura and avocado to dress up your rolls. The last tier serves the colorful bara chirashi – scallops, salmon, tuna and hamachi atop sushi rice. Those who prefer hot / cooked foods, fret not. You can try this Kurobuta Rosu Katsu – pork cutlet fried to golden brown yet retaining the tenderness of the meat within. The Wagyu Sukiyaki is also a good alternative if you want some hot soup. SENS Dining’s version has a comforting and delicious broth with slices of fatty wagyu beef to be had with rice and raw egg.
