Mr Kelly said the industry’s biggest concern was about the impact on non-accommodation businesses such as visitor attractions and activity providers.
He said the knock-on effect of reduced tourist beds could see those businesses experiencing a €1bn (£878m) drop in revenues this year.
He told the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media that inbound travel agents have said many visitors who want to come to Ireland are now booking other countries because they cannot find accommodation.

Last week Fox News did something it almost never does: Admit a false story that promoted incessantly actually was false. And on Monday, MSNBC’s Chris Hayes had fun with the whole thing, in particular Fox News primetime star Laura Ingraham.
Ingraham was tasked with disclosing the mistake, saying the network “had no clue” why anyone would make that story up. “I guess there’s a first time for everything,” Hayes quipped after explaining his view that the story “plays directly into the most deranged bias” of Fox News’ audience.

A woman was found so intoxicated in Avalanche forward Valeri Nichushkin’s hotel room Saturday that a team of doctors called for an ambulance to take her to a hospital, according to a Seattle Police Department report obtained Thursday by The Denver Post.
